Dennis Plubell
Interim Vice President
Education
Dennis L Plubell comes out of two years of retirement to provide leadership to Adventist education as the Interim Vice-President for Education at the North American Division. He values the privilege of partnership among leaders that enables all to effectively engage and empower Adventist educators. Dennis is a collaborator seeking to support and encourage all to the ministry of leading young hearts and minds to encounter and embrace Jesus.
Upon his retirement as Vice-President for Education in the North Pacific Union Conference in 2022, Dennis had completed 45 years of service at all levels—the school, conference, union, and Division. More than half of those years (25 years) were in educational leadership at the union and division level. Dennis previously worked at the NAD Office of Education as Director of Secondary Education and Accreditation (2007—2014).
Based on experience in both Canada and the United States, Dennis has been deeply involved in the development of NAD Education's strategic vision, Journey to Excellence, as well as standards for accreditation products and protocols. He has led hundreds of committees, commissions and taskforces impacting the administrative infrastructure of EC-12 education, articulating policy, developing curriculum strategies and resources, and guiding accountability protocols for educator certification and school accreditation. Dennis is recognized for his caring communication, helpful counsel, clear focus on student and educators, and knowledge of Adventist education's recent history.
Dennis holds four degrees (BA, MA, EdS, and honorary Doctor of Humane Letters) from three west coast Adventist schools—Pacific Union College, La Sierra University, and Walla Walla University. Dennis is married to Barbara (Ledington) an elementary teacher and principal. They have four young adult children and a daughter-in-law, Brent, Bryan & Nari, Brandon and Deanna.
