Secondary Curriculum Timeline
NAD SECONDARY TEXTBOOK ADOPTION
and SUBJECT AREA STANDARDS REVIEW SCHEDULE
The NAD Curriculum Committee has adopted a list of recommended textbooks for the purpose of selecting the best resources to support student learning. This list is created by Adventist teachers who have reviewed the textbooks to ensure that they will assist in the attainment of standards for learning in the subject area and that they are aligned as much as possible with the beliefs and values of the Adventist church.
It is expected that schools will use textbooks that are within 6 years of the copyright/publication date and that these textbooks will be selected from this NAD textbook list. A teacher may request the use of an alternative textbook as applicable union education policy permits.
The current schedule for textbook adoption is a five-year cycle of core subject areas. The approved list of recommended secondary textbooks is posted on the NAD website (www.adventisteducation.org). The review committees meet in the summer and make their recommendations to the NAD Curriculum Committee which meets in the fall of each year. Upon review and approval the textbook list is updated and published online in January. The dates below project the year of the summer review and January posting. This should provide adequate time purchasing decisions to be made by the school.
Secondary standards for the same subject area will also be reviewed and updated/edited as deemed necessary using this same five-year review cycle. Any recommended changes will be reviewed and approved for publication by the NAD Curriculum Committee.

Textbook selection in the following subject areas: Business, Computers, Fine Arts, Physical Education, Practical Arts, and others; is at the recommendation of the teacher in consultation with the school administrator or academy curriculum committee. The goal is to identify the resource that best supports the course learning standards, sound pedagogy, and accommodates the beliefs and values of Adventist education.
Religion textbooks for secondary courses are also listed online and are denominationally published. They will be reviewed and updated as deemed necessary. Currently, plans are being developed for upgrading and/or expanding these textbooks.
