Description: Duties: Teach courses primarily in New Testament, such as: Encountering Jesus, Letters of the Apostles (General Epistles), Parables of Jesus, Jesus and the Gospels, Biblical Books (in particular, New Testament books), Letters of Paul, Jesus as Healer, Advanced Studies in Apocalyptic (Daniel and Revelation), as well as possibly Introduction to Exegesis and Advanced Exegesis. Additional ability to also possibly teach in the areas of Historical Studies (such as Life and Ministry of Ellen White, World Religions, American Denominations, Biblical Culture and Archaeology), and/or Philosophy (e.g., Introduction to Philosophy), and/or Systematic Theology (Biblical Foundations, Christian Beliefs, Seventh-day Adventist Beliefs) would be considered very useful. In addition to an emphasis on teaching, Pacific Union College also places strong emphasis on student interaction and community involvement. Faculty are expected to participate in advising department majors, attend department functions, contribute to the College governance system, and become positively involved in the College and local communities. Faculty members are accountable to the Academic Dean. The Department Chair is responsible for the academic, financial, and administrative oversight of the Department and Department faculty.
Experience: • Ph.D. in Religion in the area of New Testament.
• ABD considered; preferred completion by August 15, 2017.
• While primary expertise in New Testament is ideal, cognate expertise in New Testament would also be possibly considered.
• Additional expertise in the areas of Philosophy and/or Seventh-day Adventist History would be considered useful.
• In addition to the stated educational requirements, the Department seeks faculty with a demonstrated ability to interact positively with students and colleagues in furtherance of the mission of the College.
