Description: The History and Political Studies Department of Southern Adventist University seeks a scholar and teacher for a half-time position in American History. The anticipated beginning contract date will be June 1, 2017, with courses beginning in August. The successful candidate will teach American history and will have expertise in either Latin American history or Africana Studies or African-American history. Essential Duties: Develop and teach four undergraduate courses per semester Advise, engage, and mentor students Sustain a research and professional growth agenda Serve on departmental and university committees Assist with departmental student recruiting activities Engage in service activities Work collegially as part of a team, with students, fellow faculty members, and administrators. Experience: Qualifications: PhD in History preferred. A strong commitment to teaching excellence in undergraduate education at a small liberal arts teaching institution. The ability to teach courses in Atlantic history, topics in African history, and in African-American and/or Latin American pop culture are desirable. Knowledge of politics on the African or South and Central American continents also of particular interest, as classes in these areas would also be desirable. All of these are not expected, but a combination of these is sought, and expertise one of the above two regional/cultural areas is a must. Special Requirements: An expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, be a SDA church member in good and regular standing.
